Author Persona: Makaio

Makaio is the laid-back island philosopher who moves at his own pace ~ until something inevitably goes sideways. He insists “it’s all good” while standing in the middle of absolute tropical chaos, and his stories build slow and explode into punchlines, usually somewhere between the beach and the bar. He laughs with everyone, including himself, and truly loves this ridiculous life.

  • UNFILTERED Paddle Drama

Everyone at Canoe Club has a job. The steersman steers. The stroker sets the pace. Makaio’s job, apparently, is morale … which is the polite island way of saying he has capsized the same six-person canoe on three separate, well-witnessed occasions.

UNFILTERED Paddle Drama is the full confession: the tryout that became a rescue operation, the regatta that became a legend, and the slow discovery that the ocean is not your enemy … it just thinks you’re hilarious. Warm, salty, and told the way the best stories are: after the fact, once everyone survived, over something with an umbrella in it.

  • Tan Lines & Cocktails

The brochure promised paradise. The brochure did not mention the rooster with a personal vendetta, the all-inclusive resort where nothing is included, or the jellyfish who joined the group unannounced.

Tan Lines & Cocktails follows Makaio through arrival chaos, beach-day physics, tourist-level attempts at local activities, and a bar crawl that starts as an itinerary and ends as folklore. Twelve chapters, eleven interactive detours, three interludes, zero useful travel advice ~ exactly as intended.
